Hatemail, part IIWeb posted on September 12, 2005 at 00:01 I recently received an email from an Amy that is presumably in response to these ramblings. http://darkside.thrillnetwork.net/ramblings/55.html
Well she tries to make herself sound smart, but if you spot the errors I'll give you a nice star to put on your forehead! Anyway, I call things as I see them, not as people like Amy do. Here's a question to ask yourself... if everyone else jumped off of a cliff because they got scared, would you to? So, you want to know why I think Maroon 5 is emo?
You see... instead of moaning and screaming about it getting harder to breathe... you can just go indoors and crawl into a bed. Works for me. So, in effect, he's killing himself, but he's just looking for a pity party. So, I am biased about emos. But, I am not stupid, as stupid is as stupid does, Amy. Here's another thing... hip hop artists used to talk about banging bitches, shooting each other, smokin weed, drinkin' a 40 or some hennessey or gin and juice. Now, they talk about their bitches and Bentleys, Hummers, and bling-bling. I'll tell you what... even though hip hop has kinda sucked lately, I'd rather do that shit than moan, groan, and act like I want to kill myself just to get someone to sleep with me. Also, R&B artists can also talk about heartbreak a lot better than emos can... without seeming like they want to kill themselves, and with a lot more harmony and with a wider range of chords. Plus, without a lot of that stuff, you wouldn't have emo music anyway (save for hip-hop/rap, emo and R&B originated from common sources, and in some ways, emo owes a lot to R&B because that has been around for ages). So, I would suggest hooking up with Matt Pinfield (former MTV VJ that can blow anyone away with his music knowledge), because you might learn something from him. Lastly, I'd like to see an emo band do something like what R. Kelly (look at The Storm is Over Now from his TP2.com album), Metallica (their S&M album where they re-arranged their songs with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra) or others did. Now, that made good artists great. |
